For retirement, being a civil servant has some advantages. But how much is the pension for a salary of 2,000 euros?
In the public service, personnel have some advantages compared to other sectors, such as the private sector. In fact, the civil servants are entitled to early retirement, therefore before the legal retirement age now raised to 64 years. Furthermore, they also benefit from a more advantageous method of calculating pensions, with the rule of “last six months”, which consists of taking into account the salary received over the six months before retirement. This therefore allows the civil servant to receive 75% of his former salary, whereas for a private sector employee, the calculation is based on the best twenty-five years of his career.
At what age can a civil servant retire?
As the Public Service website explains, “it depends on your date of birth and if you are a civil servant, depending on whether you are in the active or sedentary category”. A civil servant belongs to the active category if his job is risky or very tiring. From one category to another, the age at which a person can retire differs.
For a sedentary civil servant, the conditions are more or less the same as for a private sector employee. If the person was born before September 1, 1961, they can still retire at the age of 62. On the other hand, the legal retirement age will be gradually raised until it reaches 64 years for people born after January 1, 1968. There are, however, some situations in which it is possible to retire early, such as long-term careers. , handicap or invalidity.
Civil servants in the active category have the right to retire earlier. Indeed, if born before September 1, 1966, a person can leave at the age of 57. In the same way, the legal age of departure will be gradually raised to 59 years, for people born after January 1, 1973. “To be able to retire between the ages of 57 and 59, depending on your date of birth, you must have completed at least 17 years of active service in one or more active category jobs”specifies Public Service.
