Economic flash France – A quasi-stable business climate for INSEE in January
• According to monthly business surveys from INSEEthe business climate in France was virtually stable in January (−1 pt to 102) and remains above its average (100), while that of employment improved slightly to an already very high level (+2 pt to 112). This stability can be seen in almost all sectors: climates of industryof the services and in the building resist and remain above their average, and the retail business goes above its expansion threshold; That of Wholesale drops significantly.
• The index January synthetic flash PMI for France deteriorated slightly (−0.1 pt to 49) moving below the expansion threshold, a sign of declining activity.
• The household confidence was virtually stable in January (−1 pt to 80) and is still approaching its all-time low (79). All the balances of opinion contributed slightly to this slight fall, in particular those relating to financial topics (standard of living in France, personal financial situation, and savings capacity). Unemployment fears remain fairly low, however, although they are also rising a little.
• The number of job seekers Class A decline of 3.8% in 4e quarter of 2022 (112,100) and 9.4% over one year. The number of category A, B and C jobseekers fell more slowly over the quarter (−0.8%) in line with an increase in the number of people with short-term reduced activity (category B). Over the year, the number of category A, B and C job seekers fell by 5.2%.
