An octogenarian drives in the wrong direction and causes a serious road accident
A terrible accident caused by an 83-year-old man left three dead and two injured this weekend. The driver of the vehicle, who took the highway in the wrong direction, died.
It’s a real tragedy that took place on the highway A9, in the Gard, Saturday February 18 in the morning. An octogenarian took the road in the opposite direction in the Lyon-Montpellier direction at Roquemaure around 3:30 a.m. and caused a serious car accidentwhich involved in total one heavy truck and three light vehicles.

About thirty firefighters from several rescue centers and fourteen vehicles including 6 ambulances, were dispatched to the scene, precise Midi-Free. According to firefighters, the 25-year-old truck driver escaped without a scratch.
At 83, he causes a fatal car accident
For the time being, we do not know why this individual took the wrong way. Colonel of the Gard gendarmerie Didier Ressayre, confirmed to theAFPthat the accident is linked “to the octogenarian driver” who was driving “in the wrong direction on the highway”. Disruptions expected following the damage
Traffic was restored to one lane only, from 9:45 a.m. on February 18, while the southbound lane was closed. In a press release, operator Vinci Autoroutes said it expected “Risk of disruption” for departures on vacation due to “emergency repairs (which) continue at the level of the accident”.
Diversions in the direction of Marseille and Avignon have been put in place, in order to be able to repair damaged slides over 100 meters by the shock caused by the accident.
